Top 3 Things You Can Do on Your Wedding Day to Make it the Best Day Ever
Nerves, excitement, anxiety… All three can be linked to your wedding day. Being in the business for many years now, I’m pretty comfortable with saying that I’ve seen it all! Family drama, black eyes, breakout of hives from nerves – the list goes on. As a professional wedding vendor, and a former bride myself, I feel it’s imperative to share what I think the top three things you can do on your wedding day to make it exactly what it is: the best day of your life.
These three things may seem extremely simple or mundane, but on a wedding day, you have no idea how many directions you’re pulled in. Remembering the simple, mundane things can actually seem more difficult than usual.
1.) Drink Water: Yes, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. If you’re engaged and planning your big day, I’m sure you’ve heard a million times that “the day goes by in the blink of an eye”, well, it does. Before you know it, you’re saying goodbye to all the guests you thought you just said hello to and you’re coming down off the adrenaline rush that is your wedding day and you are buzzing. You have a massive headache, you’re exhausted and you’re just trying to get home and get any formal wear off as you curse and swear you’ll never wear such attire ever again. Being hydrated is only going to help you come down off that high, not to mention, being hydrated only helps with having more energy. You’ll overall feel better; more alert, better skin (I’m a MUA, I had to add this one in) less pain after the fact and this leads me to my second tip.
2.) Make sure to eat: Yes, another really obvious tip, but on your wedding day, as I said, you are being pulled in so many directions that your attention is on nothing but wedding décor, guest lists and making sure everything is happening on time. The last thing on your mind is food. Not to mention, with the extra stress flowing through your veins, higher levels of stress hormones like cortisol are only going to suppress your appetite and fill your stomach with nervous butterflies (or flying saucers because some of us are just more prone to anxiety). Furthermore, you’re left at the end of the night feeling slightly nauseous, possibly with a massive headache and nothing but the shakes because your blood sugar has dipped so low you’d pretty much eat just about anything. Even if slightly forced, staying on top of fueling your body with the proper food on your big day could be the difference between you remembering your day as being extra shaky and off-balance or feeling like the best version of yourself! Planning small meals ahead of time can be key.
3.) Breath: Yes I know, you’re probably kicking yourself for clicking on this blog post and wasting your time reading the most obvious answers, but hear me out. Your wedding day is full of decisions, decisions that have been in the planning for months. The amount of pressure I’ve seen my brides put themselves under is really worrisome. All that worry is actually taking away from time you’re supposed to be enjoying and memories you’re supposed to be making. Being on the outside looking in, I have seen brides miss out on the most beautiful moments in their lives. Since I’m the last vendor they typically see before getting dressed and heading down the aisle, I’ve learned to get their attention and just calm them down; as soon as they get in my chair I literally tell them to stop, take a deep breath and just be in the moment. All those big decisions are pretty much made now, things like the weather are completely out of your control and worrying about it is useless. Accept your day as is because everything that is happening is happening for a reason and even if you don’t think it’s perfect, it really is.
Overall, wedding days are known as a big day of nerves and anxiety and we can lose sight of what it’s supposed to mean - the joining of two souls forever. I always say the theme of my wedding was me marrying my best friend. Instead of getting caught up in the things that are out of our control, remembering to stick with basic, life sustaining details will only help you enjoy your day and remember it as the best day of your life.
