Implementing a Skincare Routine in Three Easy Steps
For all the clients that have come into my life, sat in my chair and I’ve had the honor of enhancing each one of their own individual features, they all have the same excuse: “I just don’t have time for a skincare routine”. No matter how different each and everyone one of them are, I have the same answer, “yes, you do”.
Whether you’re a full-time boss, rocking the corporate world or a full-time mom raising little ones at home, every person has time for themselves. Besides, incorporating a skincare routine takes only five minutes every morning and night. I’m going to show you what three easy steps you need to take, and what products you should start with to make this change in your life easy, simple and painless.
1.) Stop washing your face with a bar of soap. I get it, you have 57.6 seconds to take a shower before the kids rip apart the house or set it on fire. You grab the closest thing to get rid of those oily eyelids and t-zone and you call it a day. However, the chemicals in that bar of soap are ruining the outer protective layer of your skin and it’s causing premature aging. There are specific binders to hold a bar of soap together that have a naturally high pH level and that’s a no-no for your skin. In addition, you can actually accentuate pores and worsen breakouts! Adding a cleanser specifically for your face, especially one in a bottle with a pump, is imperative to healthy looking skin and can be just as easy to reach when in a pinch!
2.) Stop pretending you don’t need an eye cream. The skin around our eyes is more delicate than the rest of our face so we must treat it as so. The ingredients in regular face moisturizers (or any moisturizer, for that matter) have ingredients that cause the pores in that delicate skin to clog, which could cause puffiness and even dark circles. Eye creams are made specifically for that area and won’t cause damage like other moisturizers could. Plus, the eyes are a really sensitive part of the face, getting any kind of ingredient that isn’t made specifically for that area could cause burning, redness and swelling.
3.) Stop moisturizing your face with the same moisturizer you’re using on your legs. I freaking get it, you just got the kids to bed, sent that final email and all you want to do is climb into bed and pass out. But before you do, you moisturize your hands quickly because it’s winter and they’re cracked and dry and you quickly run what is left over on your face because you think that’ll get the job done. STOP. Those moisturizers have much thicker ingredients that could be too harsh for the thin skin on the face. It could clog pores making them bigger and more visible and make any breakouts worse.
Keeping your cleanser in the shower or your eye cream right on the bathroom vanity where you know you have easy access to it and know you won’t forget about it, or even going as far as leaving your moisturizer on your nightstand table so when you’re ready to crawl into bed, there’s no extra stop needed, could be the difference between you with ‘okay’ skin and you with healthy, gorgeous looking skin. Taking care of yourself is more important than you’ll ever realize! Never lose sight of it.
